DIY Flower

Phew...I finally have a few minutes to update my blog. This is a card I made for a co-worker using a do-it-yourself embellishment, which is the white flower.

I picked up this neat little technique at a Stampin' Up! workshop and it is so simple! First of all you need either a punch or die that is either a flower shape or a circular shape (something with an edge design works best like a scallop). Cut or punch five shapes in whatever colour cardstock. Quickly dip each shape in water, just enough to moisten it so it is pliable. Scrunch or fold each shape up like a closed petal, flatten back out and punch a hole in the center of each of the five shapes. Using a brad, adhere all five shapes together through the hole and scrunch your shapes up until you are happy with the flower shape. To keep your flower's shape, use a heat gun to dry it quickly. You can add glitter to the flower after it's hard to give it some sparkle too.

Here's a close up of my flower, I haven't decided if it reminds me of a rose or a lotus flower:)

Prom Project

Its been a busy end of the month...it seems lately there has been something going on every evening after work, so I've had little time to spend in my art room. The project I'm sharing today is a non-card project for once. My daughter's junior prom is tomorrow night and she wanted to buy new shoes, but I know she always kicks her shoes off 5 minutes into a dance so I offered to bling up her flip flops. Her dress is just a simple black sundress and she has a white cover up to go over it. Here is what I did with her black Airwalk flip flops.

I hotfixed Swarovski crystals in the colours teal, tanazite and peridot in varying sizes on the straps. The flowers are Prima flowers with a large rhinestone sticker in the middle. I also put together a new necklace for her that matches. The pendant is from bead gallery, the chain is from Lost & Found and the extender and clasp are sterling silver. It's a temporary necklace so I'll probably make it into something more elaborate when I get it back :)

Here's a close up of one the flip flops.
